Daily Delights

  • “I have two girls, 1 1/2 and 3. I made a deck of cards with all sorts of fun things on them. I think there are 50 cards. Stuff like go outside and blow bubbles, read 2 books, play with play dough, paint a picture… And I do whatever card we draw with the kids.”  A great idea from Katie!
  • “I was thinking about it and I also keep my kids with me while I clean and stuff. Sometimes they cook with me, too, and it’s a lot of fun. They are great helpers cleaning and we talk and sing and have fun together even while we are getting things done. They both help me put away dishes and laundry (their jammies and panties don’t get folded in their drawers and the washcloths in their bathroom just get tossed into a drawer so I don’t have to worry about stuff getting messed up – and my 3-yo can put stuff on hangers and fold towels on the floor and she loves it) and they like to clean the bathrooms with baby wipes while I use the Lysol wipes…”  Another great idea from Katie, and I can say I do these same things, and they are so much fun!  Just today, Creed was mopping with me, and having the best time!
  • Puppet shows!  Even with faces drawn on your hand, they’re sure to bring smiles.
  • Hide and Seek, and when I seek them, I make a little song out of it.  They’re always giggling by the time I get to them.
  • Singing silly camp songs
  • Playing dress up, and really playing it up!  This is so much fun!
  • Climb trees, make leaf rubbings.
  • In the spring or fall, make a bouquet of beautiful finds in the yard or at the park.  We love Fall Leaf Bouquets tied with a ribbon!
  • Today our delights were playing UNO together, and making trail mix together – they love shaking it to mix it, and it’s a great time to talk about heterogeneous and homogenous mixtures.
  • Our kids also love to take the cushions off of the couch and jump on them.  Sometimes we set up the ottomon, and they jump onto the cushions from there, and it’s great fun!  They also like to pretend the living room is a pond, and the cushions are their lilly pads, and they jump from lilly pad to lilly pad, and have a wonderful time.
  • Sidewalk Chalk
  • Look at pictures together – they LOVE this!
  • Turn on fun music and sing into brushes and dance – even Creed likes this one, and I love his dancing!
  • Make up words.
  • Build a tent.
  • Plant some seeds in cups.
